On New Year's Day, 2025 we departed to revisit some of the sights of Peru that we'd seen over 15 years before. There were two main legs to our trip.

First, we did a small boat cruise (the Aqua Nera) on the headwaters of the Amazon, starting in Iquitos. This was our third time on the upper Amazon, and it is always a wonderful adventure. The ships and food have gotten much better over the years, and the Amazon itself doesn't seem that much different

As we recovered from the mosquito bites, we began the second phase - New Paths Expeditions' 'Kingoms of Peru'. This is typically a small group tour, but this was just the two of us, which worked out fine. It's a wide-ranging itinerary on the Peruvian coast, with nature, culture, archeology and food. We had some remarkable experiences doing 'backstage' visits, ate a lot of great food, and drank a lot of great pisco sours.
