After the long COVID hiatus from international travel, we returned to our usual routine in February 2022. This time, our journeys took us toward Egypt, where we spent 2 weeks learning about both ancient and modern Egyptian culture.

We started with a few days in the Cairo area, taking a day trip to the Nile delta to see Alexandria, and spending time visiting Giza and Saqqara. We then flew to Luxor, where we boarded the ship that was to be our aquatic hotel for the next week. The Eyaru is a lovely boat, perfect size for our group of 12 (plus 2 guides). It had no engine, and was towed by a sister ship. That made negotiating the lock near Esna quite interesting.
